Despite the huge distance that separates us from Japan, the so-called ‘land of the rising sun’ has a very important car culture and recognized globally. In addition, on the other hand, different types of vehicles are marketed that we will not see in any Western country. A clear example of this is the so-called ‘kei cars’. From time to time some of these models are sold by major auto companies. And the truth is that their shapes and designs never cease to be picturesque. The last ‘kei car’ that appeared in the Japanese market was the Honda N-Box Slash 2018. The small model of the Honda was up to date and expects to sell about 500 units per month, a figure very conservative in relation to sales volumes which generally moves the N-Box family. However, it is not less relevant. The new Honda N-Box Slash 2018, which is now available in Japanese dealers receive from other news a new range of colors for the body and that we can see in the images below. It should also be noted that it can be configured with a monochrome or two-color exterior finish with the ceiling and other elements in contrast. It is also necessary to add to the line the new wheel designs, whose maximum size is 16 inches. In the interior there are also very striking changes, with a total of six environments that allow to create a passenger compartment according to the personality and the taste of the client. In addition, it has new standards for upholstery and certain trimmings can be configured in red, blue, brown and beige, among other colors. The Honda N-Box Slash line is comprised of seven trim levels. The mechanical supply consists of two engines, both of 660 cc, one of them turbo and another aspirated. Front and full wheel drive versions will also be available. Regardless of the chosen engine, this will be coupled to a CVT type automatic transmission. The price of the new Honda N-Box Slash in Japan will start from 1,359,720 yen, about 39,500 reais at the current exchange rate. The N-Box family is one of the most relevant sales lines for Honda in Japan. Last year a total of 218,478 units were sold. The only three models of the Japanese brand that surpassed that number were the Accord, the Civic and the CR-V – its three most successful vehicles.
2018 – HONDA ODYSSEY
The big minivans are another classic typology of the American market. Since the early 1980s, the Chrysler Voyager has rapidly expanded to virtually every brand in the market, although in recent times they have suffered a setback due to the proliferation of SUVs and crossovers. One of the last remnants is the 8-seat Honda Odyssey, which debuts its fifth generation in Detroit. On this occasion, the Odyssey is more technological than ever, debuting a 10-speed automatic transmission, nine ratios in some versions, and a whole range of security and infotainment systems. In mechanical terms it continues to have the same V6 i-VTEC 3.5-liter engine, which now produces 284 hp, 32 hp more. The introduction of the new 10-speed automatic transmission will bring driving smoothness to the large MPV, which is only of Japanese origin, since the Odyssey and its mechanics are manufactured in Lincoln, Alabama, while the new transmission is manufactured in Tallapoosa, Georgia. Inside, the Odyssey features an infotainment system equipped with a 7.0-inch TFT touch screen and Honda Sensing’s suite of safety systems, including adaptive cruise control, collision-free braking, track, etc. Also, according to the brand, the Odyssey is designed to get the highest ratings on NHTSA crash tests as well as to get the IIHS Top Safety Pick + award. Aesthetically the changes were not as substantial, however, their appearance was completely refreshed thanks to the adoption of a whole new front and several styling lines throughout their upgraded body. The front design comes with a style already seen in several of the latest models of the brand, in which the headlights and the grid have more horizontal and aligned shapes. On the side appear a series of folds that draw lines of style, with smooth curves that stylize the side view.
2018 – HONDA RUGGED OPEN AIR VEHICLE CONCEPT
Honda did not want to go unnoticed in this year’s edition of the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, and has prepared a prototype that is attracting a lot of attention, especially from the enthusiasts of the all-terrain. Named Honda Rugged Open Air Vehicle Concept, this vehicle was manufactured by the Honda Americas R & D department and results from the combination of two production models: Honda Ridgeline and Honda Pioneer 1000. The goal of the Japanese manufacturer for this project was to create a vehicle to be driven in the open and where one could enjoy the sensations of nature, so it was mandatory to give this ‘off-road’ arguments so that he could venture into any way. This was achieved by the huge protections in the bumpers and the chassis, by the prominent and clear suspension, by the rugged all-terrain tires. The result is in sight and impresses with the Japanese brand promising strong feelings to all who sit in the four places that the Honda Rugged Open Air Vehicle Concept offers. For the time being production is out of the plans of Honda, but this did not prevent the Japanese brand to affirm that in the construction of this prototype, only components used in other models of production of the company were used.
2018 – HONDA S660 MODULE X
The launch of the Honda S660 made it clear that while kei cars are known to be boring and overly rational cars, brands can also bet on more passionate and sporting vehicles in that category. The acceptance of the Honda convertible was so good when it was introduced, that even brand followers in Western markets made clear their interest in the model. Unfortunately his arrival is not planned for the West. Still, Japanese citizens who want to have a small two-seat convertible in their garage may opt for the new version of Honda. Recently the Japanese manufacturer decided to improve the line of the Honda S660 with the introduction of an optional package that will further radicalize the exterior and interior image of the little Japanese. This is the package Module X. In the images below we can see the result in equipping the Honda S660 with all the elements that make up this optional pack. Some modifications go beyond the merely aesthetic plan, as there are also technical changes to improve the behavior of the convertible that circulates on the roads of Japan. Paying special attention to the front of the Honda S660 comes a new bumper that shows redesigned air intakes. The grille now has a black finish and LED daytime running lights bring a technological and urban feel to the whole. The rearview mirror housings were also painted black. Taking a closer look at the side of the Honda S660 Modulo X, along with the new side skirts that reinforce the model’s image, we must highlight the new 15-inch alloy wheels with a glossy black finish that show the larger brakes. The suspension has also been refurbished and is adjustable in five steps. The rear shows a new bumper, as well as a central exhaust outlet. The new spoiler adds the finishing touches to the outside world. You can also opt for numerous colors so that the Honda S660 with the Modulo X package can reflect the personality of the driver. In relation to the interior, there is an enveloping enclosure with a cozy environment where the bicolour leather upholstery is the usual tonic. The seats, steering wheel and dashboard feature contrast stitching. The Modulo X package also includes aluminum pedals, a specific shift lever, leather upholstered handbrake, specific emblems and unique rugs. There is no such thing as a novelty, the Honda S660 Modulo X continues to be propelled by a 660cc three-cylinder turbo engine with 65 hp and 104 Nm of maximum torque coupled with a six-speed manual transmission. Optionally it is possible to count on an automatic transmission type CVT.
2018 – HONDA SMALL RS CONCEPT
Many have wondered what a ‘younger brother’ of the current Honda Civic Type-R would look like. The truth is that information has emerged in the past that indicated the development of a radical and extreme subcompact that would also adopt the Type-R emblem. However, it was always there, mere information. Now, thanks to a concept car presented in Indonesia, it is possible to have an idea of what will be this small size sports car. The new Honda Small RS Concept was unveiled at the Indonesian Salon 2018 as one of Honda’s great novelties. Takehiro Watanabe, CEO of Honda Indonesia, said during the presentation of the Small RS Concept that it is a project that shows the ideal vision of what should be a sports subcompact, both visually and dynamically. Taking a look at the images below, the truth is that we are facing a model that does not hide its intentions or character. The bright black accents and LED daytime running lights quickly catch your eye. To achieve the sports image, Honda designed a body kit for it. Paying special attention to the front, there is the enormous air intake of the hood, the marked and athletic forms of the bumper, as well as the front grille with the relevant emblem of the brand. Some of these traits are typical of the Honda Civic Type-R. Looking at the side, in addition to the extended skirts, do not overlook the black alloy wheels. Finishing the exterior tour through the rear of the Honda Small RS Concept, the huge fixed roof aerofoil is undoubtedly the most eye-catching detail. Also worth mentioning is the bumper, the diffuser and the chrome friezes. From the inside little or nothing can be said, since Honda did not publish images and did not give details about it either. Honda claims that the Small RS Concept is its vision of what a small sports car might look like, but said nothing about a hypothetical production version. What can not be ruled out is that it influences future renovation of models such as the Honda Brio RS, as well as the RS version of the Honda Jazz (Fit) that is available in certain markets.
2017 – HONDA ACCORD HYBRID
The Honda Accord Hybrid 2017 has been updated with numerous improvements but retaining the essence of the new Accord – exterior appearance and compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay – but now has a hybrid system capable of delivering 212 hp. It is the next generation of Honda’s hybrid propulsion system, an Atkinson four-cylinder 2.0-liter engine, coupled with an electric motor, which achieves a combined fuel consumption of 20 km / l. With this data, it is above its rivals, the Ford Fusion Hybrid (with 24 hp less) and the Toyota Camry Hybrid (12 hp less powerful). This hybrid system works in three different ways. One is purely electric (EV) and works only at short distances and smooth accelerations; on the second, Hybrid Drive, the front wheels move through the electric propellant and the gasoline engine drives the generator, and the third, Engine Drive, uses a self-locking clutch that connects both engines that move the front wheels together.n In relation to its image, stand out for the specific wheels, blue LED daytime running lights and the hybrid emblem. It will be available in three trim levels: Hybrid, Hybrid EX-L and Hybrid Touring. The brand is confident that the new Accord Hybrid will outperform its predecessor, and expects to double its sales of 14,000 vehicles annually.
